Illinois Rural Electric
Apprenticeship Program

The Illinois Rural Electric Apprentice Program (“IREAP”) is a training strategy that combines supervised, structured on-the-job training with related electrical theory instruction.   IREAP is a program of the Association of Illinois Electric Cooperatives (“AIEC”) and is offered to the AIEC’s member cooperatives and other employers who desire to have their employees educated and trained into becoming a journeyman lineman.

  • January 31 – February 1 – Safety and Energy Conference (Crowne Plaza | Springfield, IL)
  • March 25-April 5 – Climbing School (No Class on March 29)
  • April 8-12 – 1st Year Distribution School
  • April 15-19 – 2nd Year Distribution School
  • April 22-26 – Advanced Distribution School
  • April 29-May 3 – Rubber Gloving School
  • May 6-10 – Underground Residential Distribution (URD) School
  • May 13-17 – Utility Line Clearance School (Whittington, IL)
  • June 4-6 – 1st and 2nd Year Apprentice Classes – TENTATIVE Dates (AIEC)
  • June 11-13 – 3rd and 4th Year Apprentice Classes – TENTATIVE Dates (AIEC)
  • July 16-18 – Transformer School (AIEC)
