Illinois Rural Electric
Apprenticeship Program

The Illinois Rural Electric Apprentice Program (“IREAP”) is a training strategy that combines supervised, structured on-the-job training with related electrical theory instruction.   IREAP is a program of the Association of Illinois Electric Cooperatives (“AIEC”) and is offered to the AIEC’s member cooperatives and other employers who desire to have their employees educated and trained into becoming a journeyman lineman.

  • June 6-8 – 1st and 2nd Year IREAP Class
  • June 12-14 – 3rd and 4th Year IREAP Class
  • July 11-13 – Substation School
  • September 5-15- Climbing School (2 Weeks)
  • September 21 – Lineworker’s Safety Rodeo
  • September 25-29 – 1st Year Distribution School
  • October 2-6- 2nd Year Distribution School
  • October 9-13- Advanced Distribution School
  • October 16-20- Rubber Gloving School
  • October 23-27- Underground Residential Distribution (URD) School
  • October 25 – Trenching and Shoring/Competent Person
