Effective political engagement at all levels of government requires significant planning and is vital to empowering member-owners to protect and advance the interests of their cooperative. The power of distribution cooperatives to influence policymakers is vital to their continued success. This course helps directors connect the dots between what they as individuals can do on behalf of their cooperative, while maximizing relationships with their statewide and with NRECA to make sure the co-op voice is heard on Capitol Hill and in the regulatory agencies.
- Strategies for engaging consumer-members in grassroots advocacy on behalf of the their cooperative
- Infusing grassroots into the co-op’s strategic plan
- Communicating with identified advocates and champions among the co-op’s member base
- Creating a political game plan
Who should attend?
Cooperative directors, CEOs and senior staff.
Lunch and break refreshments will be served.
One (1) credit will be awarded upon the successful completion of this course. Credit for this course will be applied toward NRECA’s Board Leadership Certificate (BLC) or Gold status for those who have elected to enroll in the Gold status program.
For those cooperatives participating in the IEC Continuing Education Program.
Cancellations made prior to the registration deadline will not be charged. Cancellations made 48 hours prior to the event will be charged ½ of the determined administrative price for attending. Cancellations within 48 hours of the course or a “No Show,” will be charged the full amount. Substitutions are allowed. Since this course is off-site, the usual $25 fee for attending will be increased based on the charges from the Crowne Plaza and additional over 50 attendee charges from NRECA.
