The Governor has signed a proclamation declaring Careers in Energy Week, October 15-19, for the State of Illinois, which highlights our efforts to create a strong and growing energy workforce and to encourage Illinoisans of all ages to consider a career in the energy industry.
The AIEC and the Center for Energy Workforce Development (CEWD) along with other utilities in the state of Illinois to form the Illinois Energy Workforce Consortium (IEWC)and began working together as to create a Careers in Energy Week in 2010. The purpose was to increase the public’s awareness about energy careers through a concerted nationwide/statewide effort. This provides an opportunity for energy companies to connect with their local communities, schools, families and other businesses to provide information about how utilities operate, the types of jobs within the industry, what type of education is required and where they can obtain the education they need.
During Careers in Energy week, IEWC is providing free materials for elementary teachers to help share these exciting career opportunities.
The AIEC partners with Lincoln Land Community College offering an Electrical Distribution Lineman Associate in Applied Science Degree and Electrical Distribution Lineman Maintenance, Certificate of Achievement. For more information on this program contact Roger Larkin, the AIEC Manager of Apprentice and Lineworker Development at 217/622-6694 or Mary Zitek (217/241-7934) for more information on Careers in Energy! The AIEC also supports the “Illinois Hires Heroes” and the “Serve our Co-ops, Serve our County” Programs for veterans looking for employment in the energy industry.
