Illinois Cooperative Youth Day is April 2011
For over 50 years, the electric and telephone cooperatives of Illinois have given tomorrow's leaders the opportunity to learn from today's public officials. Each year, nearly 300 outstanding students get an up close and first hand look at democracy in action when they meet their elected representatives during Illinois Electric and Telephone Cooperatives Youth Day. Over the years, thousands of students have learned how government works and why it's important for every citizen to get involved in it. State senators and representatives have the opportunity to inspire and encourage the leaders of tomorrow during this annual event, held in Springfield.
Youth Day Dress Code – semi dress
Boys
- shirts with collars – no t-shirts
- casual slacks – example – dockers – no jeans
- sport coats and/or shirt and tie are acceptable but not necessary
- comfortable shoes
Girls
- casual dresses, skirts and blouses or sweaters, or slacks – no jeans
- Suits or slacks and jackets acceptable but not necessary
- comfortable shoes – prefer flats or dress sandals – no flip flops
Remember: You will have your picture taken with the legislator from your district and it will be viewed in your local newspapers. You will want to look sharp for the event. You can view pictures on the Youth Day page of participants from last year.
