Safety and Training

The Safety and Training Division coordinates the AIEC’s safety program by providing specialized schools, safety meetings, apprentice training, etc. In addition, it provides professional development and training programs for cooperative directors, management staff and employees.

IEC Emergency Work Plan

The IEC Emergency Work Plan is designed to expeditiously provide personnel, equipment and materials to any electric cooperative in Illinois which needs assistance during an emergency.

LLCC Programs

The AIEC facilitates the Electrical Distribution Linemen Programs at Lincoln Land Community College in Springfield, Illinois. Students can earn an Electric Distribution Lineman Maintenance, Associate in Applied Science degree; or an Electric Distribution Lineman Maintenance, Certificate of Achievement.  For more information contact Thad France, Manager of Lineworker and Apprentice Development at (217) 241-7931.

The Illinois Rural Electric Apprentice Program (“IREAP”) is a training strategy that combines supervised, structured on-the-job training with related electrical theory instruction. IREAP is a program of the Association of Illinois Electric Cooperatives (“AIEC”) and is offered to the AIEC’s member cooperatives and other employers who desire to have their employees educated and trained into becoming a journeyman lineman.
